Senior Warden's Report
August, 2002

The summer is passing us by at breakneck speed as we wind down the lazy, hazy, crazy days of summer (well, I don't know about lazy!). There are always many tasks that keep us busy both in our own family and our church family. If you have not been involved in any of the many church activities, I strongly encourage you to do so. You will have a great time, enjoy fellowship and meet new people. When you receive this article, summer will be just about gone. We will once again prepare for another year of learning whether it be youth or adult, public or private school, or Christian Education. Over the past several weeks the Rector and the Vestry have asked either by voice or by ballot for your input in establishing more time for Christian Education. This was a mandate from the Parish when we had the forums back in January. The only way this can happen is if we change some of the service times. If you have not voiced your opinion (we want to hear from everyone) please let me or any vestry member know how you feel about the proposed options. The Rector and Vestry will be making this decision at the August meeting based on your input. Your voice is extremely important and we want to hear it. I know that not everyone will be satisfied with the decision—but no matter how hard we try, we cannot please everyone!

On another note, we are seeking names to consider for the vestry elections in December. If you wish to submit your name or someone else's please let me, Don Barnett, Warren Prados, or Charlotte Knipling know as soon as possible.

At the July vestry meeting the following items were discussed:

  • Blaise Bury gave an update on the planning of water and sewer projects.
  • Shrinemont feedback showed that most were pleased with the adult and youth programs.
  • McGurie Woods update (development of Engleside property south of our location).
  • After reviewing our Strategic Plan, duties were assigned to each commission to establish a plan of action for follow-up at subsequent meetings.
  • The Wishing Well has been a pleasant surprise as many items have been funded.
  • Treasurer's report was a bit brighter, but still behind predictions.
  • Vestry nominating committee met to begin a plan of action to recruit candidates for the Vestry in December's election.

As always, I would like to hear from anyone regarding their concerns.

Yours in Christ,

George Crump, Senior Warden
