Junior Warden's Report
July, 2002

The Pohick Foundation reception on June 9th was a big hit! The many attendees were able to see some of the absolutely priceless historical artifacts in possession of the Church. These included a register from the 1836 capital campaign to save "George Washington's" church. Martin Van Buren, John Quincy Adams, Henry Clay, Daniel Webster and Francis Scott Key are among the signatures in the book. The Washington family Bible was also on display as were many other items associated with the long history of Pohick. Jim White's presentation was super! Hopefully many of you will decide to become members of the foundation and help us protect the heritage and history of our wonderful Pohick.

The steam pipes in the church were replaced this month. This was an extensive and expensive operation. Capital Boiler had a crew on site for about 12 days. This should end our steam leak problems for a long while. We used a very high grade of material to insure the repairs last. Next, we will start repairing the damage caused by the steam. This includes rebuilding the pew in the northwest corner. By fall the church should look great! Many folks have asked about the effect the new pipes will have on the Sunday morning clanging—not sure—we will just have to wait and listen.

I hope to hold a Fairground Clean-up Day this month. Watch the Sunday bulletin for details and a firm date. Even though the Highway 1 expansion has been put on hold, we still need to do some pretty extensive clean up and repairs around the grounds. This includes the spreading of the wood chips to help nourish the trees.

As always, please let me know when you see things that need attention. The best way to contact me is usually via email. Just drop me a note at jrbrooksatt@att.net. Also let me know if you see something that looks especially good. I will make sure the responsible volunteers get the message! Please join me in thanking Valerie Welch for the great job on the Parish House floors. Her team spent many hours stripping and re-waxing the floors. They really look great! Also thank Jim Foster and Chet Liddle for repairing the courtyard lights.
