59TH ANNUAL POHICK FAIR A HEARTFELT THANKS AND SOME INITIAL FEEDBACK

Tom Mayberry, Chairman

Thank you to the many parishioners and members of Lorton and Fairfax County for the unwavering support of the 2004 Pohick Fair on October 2, 2004. Notwithstanding heavy pre-dawn rains, chilly temperatures, and the threat of afternoon showers, the attendance and performance matched previous years of nicer weather.

The Bottom Line: According to Marvin Boundy, the Fair Treasurer, the preliminary cash account reflected a total of $19,919.31, which is $505.90 more than the amount collected on Fair Day in 2003. The returns for 2004 were higher for Apple Butter, Books, Coffee, Country Store, Food, Funnel Cakes, the Garden Shop, Hodge Podge, Raffle and Games. Most other areas either maintained or did nearly as well as last year. This year's Fair Book advertising proceeds, which are not reflected in the Fair Day tally, did remarkably well, and should put the budget well in the black. A special thanks to Mike Schmid, Anita Stribbling and Ellen Dwyier for their indomitable efforts. The true success of the 2004 Fair cannot be measured until all of the bills are paid and the remaining proceeds are received. REMINDER: Please pay for Fair tickets, it's not too late!

A final 2004 Fair Meeting will be held on Saturday, December 4, 2004 at 9:15 am. The meeting's purpose will be to capture lessons learned for next year's fair. Warren Prados has graciously agreed to serve as the Chairman of the 60 th Annual Pohick Fair in 2005.
