Junior Warden's Report Merry Christmas! Boy, this year just flew by. Now I have to go break in a new Vestry! What a wonderful year at Pohick serving and blessing our Lord. Look around and see how many new faces are at Pohick since last Christmas. It has been a good year for Pohick. Ever notice the picture on the side of the Lorton Volunteer Fire Department trucks? It is Pohick Church! The Fire Department conducted the first of three visits to orient the members on our property. The fireman checked out exits and entrances for both people and equipment; looked at crawl space and attics; studied building materials, and looked for hazards. It was a very good visit for all. We also gave the fireman a history lesson on the Church and Grounds. They were very happy about some of the safety improvements we are trying to make, like water, sprinkler systems, and better road access. Repairs to the Church interior continue to be worked! As I write this note, we have settled with the Church Insurance Company and have signed contracts to begin the repairs. The repairs to the pews should be accomplished prior to the Christmas services. The painting will not occur until after the New Year begins. Updates will be provided in the bulletin insert and the Post as things progress. The work will not require the closing of any pews. The painting will take several weeks, in which time scaffolding will be put up and taken down between services. As VDOT likes to say "Please excuse our mess as we improve things for you!" The playground has been the nexus of considerable conversation lately. We need to do some things to make the environment safer. Part of this was to lower the teeter-totter. The playground was designed for small children and the teeter-totter was too high. This created a dangerous situation. Thanks to the unnamed parishioner that brought this to my attention. Also, we have posted a sign that says, "Children must be supervised while on the playground." Please help us enforce this. We get a mix of older and very young children and the place can get pretty hectic. Thank God we have such a large population of children these days! Let's keep all of them safe. With that in mind, please drive slowly through the parking lots. These little critters sometimes shoot out between cars. Thanks to all who came out for the fall clean-up day November 23rd! We count so much on volunteers to keep things in shape at Pohick. The hands of many make the work light. As always, please let me know when you see things
that need attention. The best way to contact me is usually via email.
Just drop me a note at randybrooks@cox.net.
Also let me know if you see something that looks especially good. I will
make sure the responsible volunteers get the message! Randy Brooks
