Christmas Mart 2006

The annual Pohick Church Christmas Mart will take place on Thursday, November 16, from 10:00 am to 2:00 pm. There are MANY opportunities for the congregation – women and men - to participate in making this another successful Mart. A list of the various categories and their respective chairmen are listed below.

Attic Treasures: (Beverly Peterson, Jane Goeller, Pia Mullins) Clean out those closets and attics, including books, toys, videos.

Baked Goods/Pantry Shelf: (Judy Schmid & Edwardene Pitcock) Donate homemade cakes, pies, cookies, candy, fudge, breads, homemade jams, jellies, preserves, relishes, vinegars, etc.

Christmas Shoppe: (Prudence Brooks) Donate handmade craft items, also items depicting Pohick Church.

Consignment & Art Show: (Edith Bartlett) Fine china, glass, silver, and crafts are sold on consignment.

Decorations: (Susan Homar, Jenny Lindenbaum) Help transform the buildings into a beautiful Christmasy atmosphere.

Frozen Casseroles: (Carol Heintze, Helen Parker) Donate homemade frozen main dishes, soups, sauces, casseroles, etc. These items are very big sellers.

Jewelry: (Cammie Liddle, Anne Poad, Pat Osisek, Lori Napier) Contribute old jewelry - both fine and costume.

Luncheon: (Connie Myers) Help in the kitchen preparing the delicious lunch that is served.

Waitresses: (Anita Stribling) Volunteer to be one of the lovely waitresses dressed in colonial costume to serve the delicious luncheon.

Luncheon Ticket Sales: (Barbara Lynn) Lunch tickets go on sale when the doors open on Mart Day.

Outside Crafters: (Connie Myers, Heidi Forgione) There are a few tables that can be rented to outside crafters, who add to the affair, and help draw the crowds.

Advertising & Publicity: (Heidi Forgione) It is important to get posters and flyers out in the community, as well as in local newspapers.

Docents: (Diana Bland) The Church will be open for tours during the Christmas Mart, so Docents will also be needed.

Setup & Cleanup: (Connie Myers, Kathy Kirkland) This is where the MEN of the Church are encouraged to get involved. We need the assistance of their “muscle-power.” The moving of the heavy furniture takes place on Tuesday evening, November 14, with the final setup and decorating taking place on Wednesday, November 15, and cleanup (putting things back to normal!) begins immediately following the 2:00 pm closing time on Mart Day.

Mini-Mart: (Connie Myers, Prudence Brooks) On the Sunday following the Mart, November 19, items remaining will be offered for sale in the Common Room. This gives those unable to attend the Mart an opportunity to purchase remaining crafts, baked goods, or Pantry shelf items.

Greeters: (Ginny Newell) Greet the guests as they enter the Parish House, handing out the Christmas Mart Booklet that describes what is offered and where it can be found.

Tellers: (Judy Schmid, Edwardene Pitcock) Count and tabulate the finances at the end of the Mart.

There are MANY ways everyone can get involved with the Christmas Mart. It is a great way to meet new friends, and share in hours of fun. The money raised is divided among the Ann Mason Guild, the Martha Guild, and the Women of the Church. The funds will be used in various outreach programs. There will be many announcements and requests for help. Please see the Christmas Mart Newsstand in the Common Room! Please contact the names listed above, or call Connie Myers or Jackie Wells.

Christmas Mart Jewelry Table

Unused jewelry now has a purpose. Please donate any jewelry no longer needed to the Christmas Mart Jewelry Table. Profits from the jewelry sales have been very substantial for the past few years, thanks to lots of donations. Any jewelry, in any condition, is useful. Broken jewelry is bagged and sold to craft makers.

Jewelry can be left in the Church office, or given to Pat Osisek, Anne Poad, or Cammie Liddle. Questions should be directed to Cammie Liddle.

Consignment Room

HARK! Are there any items of value hidden in the house that should be passed on to another loving owner? Consider consigning or donating them to the Consignment Shop at the Christmas Mart. There are always people looking for pretty pieces of glass, silver or other decorative items. New craft and needlework consignors are also in demand. Even if there are only a few items, they can make a bit of money for the individual and the Church. The consignor receives 75% of the selling price, and the Church receives 25%. For more details, contact Edie Bartlett at redsse@aol.com.

Tuesday evening Mart Set-Up

To the men of the Congregation: please help on Tuesday evening, November 14, by moving the furniture and tables in preparation for the Christmas Mart. Start time is 5:00 pm. There will be a sign-up sheet at the “Christmas Mart Newsstand” in the Common Room. Any questions, please contact Connie Myers.

Kitchen Volunteers for the Christmas Mart

The delicious luncheon served at the Christmas Mart is always a big hit. Preparing for the 300 lunches served requires a great deal of help. The following is the schedule of the “behind the scenes” work in the kitchen:

  • Saturday, November 11 at 9:30 am - chopping of the turkey. Bring a sharp knife and meet in the kitchen.
  • Tuesday, November 14 after 1:00 pm – preparation for Mart luncheon.
  • Wednesday, November 15 after 9:00 am - continue with the preparation of the food. Homemade turkey noodle soup is available to ALL Mart workers for lunch.
  • Thursday, November 16 beginning at 8:00 am - final preparation, serving, and cleaning up Mart luncheon.

Contact Connie Myers to help on any of the above dates. Volunteer for an hour or for the day. All donated time is appreciated!
