Parish Nurse Corner BLOOD DRIVE NOVEMBER 14, 2004 Please, please give the gift of life by donating blood at the Blood Drive on Sunday,November 14 from 9:00 am until 1:00 pm. The INOVA Bloodmobile will be located in the Church parking lot. Forty donors are required to sponsor a blood drive, and currently, there are 25 pledges. Donors must be 17 years of age, generally in good health, weigh at least 110 pounds and have a photo ID. Pohick Church will still receive credit for pledges that are determined to be unable to give for some medical reason. Giving the gift of life is safe and simple, and most healthy people can be blood donors. Feel good by giving blood to benefit others. New pledges to give blood can still be made. To pledge or to make an appointment, contact Carol Heddleston by email at cheddleston@comcast.net. Automatic External Defibrillator Great news for Pohick: An Automatic External Defibrillator (AED) is now in the Parish Hall. This lifesaving device was donated in memory of Brook Voght by his loving wife, Virginia. It is placed on the wall by the office door for easy access. AED's do not require extensive medical knowledge to understand or operate. The expertise to analyze the heart's electrical function is programmed into the device, so that ordinary people can provide the necessary treatment for victims of sudden cardiac arrest. A four hour training session covering both AED and CPR is all that is necessary to learn how to use the device. The second training session for CPR and AED use is being offered on November 15 and 16 from 7:00 pm until 9:00 pm in the Vestry House. To sign up for the training session, contact Carol Heddleston at cheddleston@comcast.net.Yours in Christ, |
