Medicare
Sara is a 75 year old retiree with limited income. She is enrolled in Medicare and has supplemental medical insurance through her former employer. Sara felt safe knowing her medical expenses were covered in full. Last year, Sara was diagnosed with breast cancer followed by a reduction in retiree health benefits. In addition, prescription drug benefits for retirees were eliminated. Sara sought advice from her local Area on Aging and was referred to a VICAP Coordinator in her community.
With powerful information from the VICAP counselor, Sara was able to understand her Medicare options, rights, and benefits. Now, she is more relaxed and better able to take care of her health.
What is VICAP? VICAP stands for Virginia Insurance Counseling and Assistance Program. VICAP is a state-run program that provides free and unbiased health benefits counseling for Medicare beneficiaries of all ages, their families and caregivers. The mission of VICAP is to empower consumers to make the most of their Medicare benefits and choices.

• Figure out long term care needs and insurance options.
• Evaluate Medicare supplemental plans and compare policies.
• Understand Medicare private health plan options.
• Enroll, if eligible, in Medicare Savings Programs to help pay for Medicare premiums and co-pays.
• Figure out medical bills.
• Understand Medicare/Medicaid eligibility and enrollment requirements.
• Evaluate Medicare Part D plans and other resources for prescription drug assistance.
• File Medicare appeals and grievances.

INOVA Flu Shot Clinic
The INOVA Flu Shot Clinic will be visiting Pohick Church this year on Sunday, October 12, 2008 from 9:00 am until 11:00 am. Medicare will be accepted for payment, otherwise the cost is $25.
