member on the Vestry. Austin, a senior at Woodbridge Senior High
School, brings lots of Pohick experience to the group. Welcome Austin!
• Rev. Binder gave an update on the search
for a permanent associate priest. With six resumes in, he will commence
meeting with the candidates. In consultation with his Search Committee,
Rev. Binder expects a decision within the next month. The Search
Committee is comprised of Tom Mayberry, Neil Sunderland, Greg Wise,
Robin Teale, Bill Stewart, and Anne Poad.
• Rev. Binder begins his adult education
program on the Classics of Christian Spiritual Journey in October.
• He discussed the upcoming parish meeting
with the architects. Two parishioners are being asked to volunteer
to head two committees to work Phases 1 A and B of the growth plan
in the wake of this meeting - one to manage a capital campaign, and
another to head up a renovation committee. The renovation committee
will focus on upgrading the Parish Hall and possibly the Vestry House.
• Rev. Foughty discussed the EYC kick-off
picnic with 41 people registered to attend.
• Wayne Biggs, Junior Warden, briefed that repairs to the damaged
wall were underway at a cost of approximately $6,500, which was covered
by the driver’s insurance company. Up to 20% of the original
bricks proved salvageable. Wayne indicated that Peter Kind had also
conducted some interim repairs to the area leading up to the handicapped
ramp at the Church building. Two quotes have been received to replace
the carpeting in the Parish Hall - one for $12,000 and the second for
$15,000. Wayne also noted that a number of times the Parish Hall doors
were found unlocked on Saturdays. All groups using the facilities on
Saturday mornings need to make double sure that someone has locked
the doors.
• Neil Sunderland, Worship, mentioned that
Jim Hayes is pursuing a vocational diaconate; he next covered the
upcoming All Saints Day celebration.
• Edwardene Pitcock, Stewardship, indicated
she is working on the stewardship campaign.

report with plate and pledge income for August below the historic
average for the month. For the year, there is a shortfall of $25,500.
Expenses continue to be within budget.
• An update was provided on work underway
by the Planning and Policy Commission. There is an ongoing investigation
into options to incorporate the Church; Ken Evans has spent considerable
time with this and has made tentative arrangements for a legal presentation
to the Vestry on the advantages/disadvantages of such a move. Vestry
meeting minutes will be posted.
• Doug Smith, Mission and Outreach, briefed
that the New Orleans mission trip was underway with ten adults, and
that the LCAC school supplies drive was very successful with 50 backpacks
and other supplies being collected.
• Robin Teale, Pastoral Care, briefed the
next Community of Hope meeting; she also reported that there will
be a blood mobile at the Country Fair and flu shots in November.
• Dana Hutson, Christian Education, briefed that
96 children registered for Sunday school, raising the total for the
calendar year to 129. This represents an increase of 28 kids. Dana
also indicated that there are several new families getting involved
(some from St. Margaret’s)
and two new adults have joined the ranks of the teaching staff.
• Susanne Leon and Susan Pehrsson, Service and
Fellowship, indicated that the newcomers’ reception was a hit
and that preparations were underway for the Christmas Mart.
