2007 Christmas Mart The annual Pohick Church Christmas Mart will take place on Thursday, November 15, from 10:00 am until 2:00 pm. This event is sponsored by the Women of Pohick Church, the Ann Mason Guild, and the Martha Guild. The women have been busy for months working on crafts, and planning for this wonderful event. The Parish House and the Vestry House will take on a lovely Christmas atmosphere, and all the rooms will be filled with beautiful arts and crafts, attic treasures, consignments, and delicious items to tantalize the taste buds from the baked goods and pantry shelf, as well as frozen casseroles. A delicious luncheon is served by lovely ladies dressed in colonial costume. There will be three seatings, 11:00 am, 12:00 noon, and 1:00 pm. There are MANY, MANY opportunities for the congregation - women and men - to participate in making this another successful Mart. A list of the various categories and their respective chairmen are listed below. Baked Goods/Pantry Shelf: (Judy Schmid, Edwardene Pitcock) Donate homemade cakes, pies, cookies, candy, fudge, breads, homemade jams, jellies, preserves, relishes, vinegars, etc. Christmas Attic Treasures: (Beverly Peterson, Jane Goeller) A NEW TWIST for this room - this will be for Christmas related items, i.e. old decorations, ornaments, lights, plates, knick-knacks, books with a Christmas theme, etc. Christmas Shoppe: (Ann Mason Guild, Prudence Brooks) Donate handmade craft items, also items depicting Pohick Church. Consignment and Art Show: (Edith Bartlett) Fine china, glass, silver, and crafts are sold on consignment. Decorations: (Susan Homar, Melitta Holmgren) Help with transforming the buildings into a beautiful Christmasy atmosphere. Frozen Casseroles: (Carol Heintze, Helen Parker) Donate homemade frozen main dishes, soups, sauces, casseroles, etc. These items are very big sellers! Jewelry: (Cammie Liddle, Anne Poad, Pat Osisek, Lori Napier) Contribute previously owned jewelry including both fine and costume. Luncheon: (Connie Myers, Jackie Wells) Help in the kitchen preparing the lunch that is served. Waitresses: (Anita Stribling) Volunteer to be one of the lovely waitresses dressed in colonial costume to serve the delicious luncheon. Luncheon Ticket Sales: (Phyllis Pinkard) Lunch tickets go on sale when the doors open on Mart Day. Outside Crafters: (Connie Myers, Prudence Brooks) There are a few tables available for rent to outside crafters, who add to the affair, and help draw the crowds. Advertising and Publicity: (Heidi Forgione) It is important to get posters and flyers out in the community, as well as in local newspapers. Docents: (Diana Bland) The Church will be open for tours during the Christmas Mart, so Docents will also be needed. Set-up and Clean-up: (Kathy Kirkland) This is where the MEN of the Church are encouraged to get involved - “muscle-power” is definitely needed. The moving of the heavy furniture takes place on Tuesday evening, November 13, with the final setup and decorating taking place on Wednesday, November 14. Cleanup begins immediately following the 2:00 pm closing time on Mart Day. Mini-Mart: (Connie Myers, Prudence Brooks, Susan Homar) On Sunday, November 18, the Mart will be set up in the Common Room to offer the remaining items. This is an opportunity for those who could not attend on Thursday to purchase remaining crafts, baked goods, or Pantry shelf items. Greeters: (Ginny Newell) Greet the guests as they enter the Parish House, handing out the Christmas Mart Booklet that describes what is offered and where it can be found. Tellers: (Judy Schmid, Edwardene Pitcock) Count and tabulate the finances at the end of the Mart. There are MANY ways for everyone to get involved with the Christmas Mart. It is a great way to meet new friends, and share in hours of fun. The money raised is divided among the Ann Mason Guild, the Martha Guild, and the Women of the Church. The funds will be used in various outreach programs. There will be many announcements and requests for help. Hopefully, there will be some way EVERYONE can volunteer! Please contact the names that are listed above, or call Connie Myers, Jackie Wells, or Prudence Brooks. Christmas Mart Jewelry Table Unused jewelry now has a purpose! Please donate any jewelry no longer needed to the Christmas Mart Jewelry Table. Profits from the jewelry sales have been very substantial for the past few years, thanks to lots of donations. Any jewelry, in any condition, is useful. Broken jewelry is bagged and sold to craft makers. Jewelry can be left in the Church office, or given to Pat Osisek, Anne Poad, or Cammie Liddle. Questions should be directed to Cammie Liddle. Consignment Shop and Art Show Here is an opportunity to move some previously owned “objects of art” to another venue! Wonderful craft or artistic items that are homemade are also welcome. Take a chance and see if they will sell at the Christmas Mart. Silver and glass items do very well as do created crafts and stitched items. Items can be consigned, which will bring consignors 75% of the selling price with 25% going to the Women of Pohick. Items can also be donated with the entire sale price going to the Women of Pohick. New contributors are always welcome. Please call Edie Bartlett at redsse@aol.com for more information. Kitchen Volunteers for the Christmas Mart The luncheon served at the Christmas Mart is always a big hit! Preparing the 300 lunches served requires a great deal of help. Preparation will begin on Saturday, November 10 at 9:30 am with the chopping of several turkeys. Please bring a sharp knife and meet in the kitchen. On Wednesday, November 14, food preparation will continue. Arrive any time after 9:00 am! Turkey noodle soup is prepared for lunch for all the Wednesday workers on the official setup day. On Mart Day, volunteers will be needed for the “behind the scenes” work in the kitchen. Contact Connie Myers to help on any of the mentioned dates. Come volunteer for an hour or for the day! All help welcome! |
