Senior Warden's Report

The Vestry was pleased to welcome Lyn Youll Marshall to the August Vestry meeting, which was her first as Assistant Rector. She thanked the Vestry for the warm welcome and “pounding” she and her husband Paul received on their arrival. Please make an extra effort to wear name tags in the months ahead to help Lyn and Paul get to know the Pohick Church family.

  • Jeff Parker, Property, submitted a proposal to repair the recurring leak in the Parish Hall. An expenditure of $8,000 - low bid and best value - was authorized for the job with funds to come from the Capital Repair budget. Jeff also solicited feedback on the new sound system. Some parishioners have reported that the volume is too loud. Audio engineers are continuing to make adjustments to the new system. Jeff also indicated that the Renovations Committee is up and running; $30,000 will be needed to work through the projects identified to date.

  • John Pasour, Treasurer, briefed that the Plate and Pledge income is at the lowest level of the year, and significantly below the historic average for July. This corresponds to $14,000 less income than expected for this time of the year. Expenditures for the month were normal and consistent with budget projections. John also provided a detailed review of year-to-date expenses.

  • Neil Sunderland, Worship, has volunteered to convene a five to seven person Lay Committee for the new seminarian. Neil is seeking additional members for the committee.

  • A new policy was approved to add a youth representative to the Vestry. The policy will be presented to the congregation for ratification, and a candidate for a youth representative will presented for election at the December annual meeting. A special thanks to Don Brownlee, Planning and Policy Commission Chair, for many months of hard work on this policy. Don also briefed that his group has completed its study on “Issues and Choices” for the Parish in light of the ongoing debates within the Anglican Communion. Given the scope of this effort and the time required to review it, the Vestry deferred discussion until a future meeting.

  • Dana Hutson, Christian Education, briefed that Vacation Bible School was a resounding success. Dana also suggested that Pohick should sponsor an outreach tent/table at this year’s Country Fair.

  • Robin Teale, Pastoral Care, indicated that a Community of Hope meeting would be held.

  • The Stewardship Commission has prepared a first draft of this year’s stewardship brochure. Picture selection is in process.

  • A proposal by EJ Delaune to participate in the Lorton 4th of July parade was discussed. This is being considered as a great outreach event.
