HEALTH NEWS I am at Shrine Mont at the present time as the camp nurse. This is something I have the privilege of doing every summer for the first two weeks in August. I work with the soccer and art camps, and I love being here in this capacity. This morning, I was thinking about why no one from Pohick takes advantage of this wonderful children’s camp, and it occurred to me that perhaps many are not aware of its existence. The camp is a diocesan sponsored camp and offers many different types of activities for children ranging from 8 to 18 years. There is St. George’s Camp, which offers the traditional camp experience in a Christian atmosphere. There is also a Music, Art, and Drama Camp, which prepares a biblically based musical and takes it on the road. Soccer camp offers soccer and lots more. Art Camp works with all sorts of media and takes the time to appreciate God’s creations. Other camps that are offered include Explorer’s Camp and Senior High Youth Conference. All of these camps are in the beautiful setting of Shrine Mont. WOW! What a great place to spend 6 or 16 days! There are even scholarships available for families that cannot afford to pay the full tuition, which is fairly reasonable. I was reading a book of poetry written by Francis Gibson Woodward, who lived at Shrine Mont for the last seventeen years of her life. She was married to Dr. Edmund Lee Woodward, and together they founded Shrine Mont to serve as a place for spiritual refreshment. She writes about the Shrine of the Transfiguration: “We thank thee, Lord, for this thy holy Shrine,
I do hope next March when the brochure comes to the Church some of you will take advantage of this glorious place, and send your child to camp. |
