The Pohick Country Fair is just one month away. Many have already started to set aside items to donate to Hodge Podge, which is the fall flea market held in the Parish Hall on Fair day. Every year the process evolves just a bit, based on recent trends. Here are some of the guidelines to follow this year.

First, who shops at Hodge Podge? Think of the Hodge Podge buyer as a low income, but employed person with children and many young military families. Members of the congregation sometimes buy knick-knacks and higher end goods.

What Sells:
• Items MUST be clean and in good repair. The people who visit Hodge Podge are not “do-it-yourselfers.” If an item does not work, they will pass it by.
• Toys, bicycles in good condition with inflated tires, and games containing all the pieces
• Tools - hand tools sell especially well
• Lawn tools in good repair and not heavily rusted
• Furniture (especially wood furniture) and lawn furniture
• Lamps and lights
• Housewares that include dishes, pots, and pans, utensils, and appliances
• Linens, draperies, bed spreads
• Holiday decorations
• Small electronic devices
• Knick-knacks
• Kids clothes and coats

What DOESN’T Sell: Please do not bring things that will just have to be thrown away.
• Adult clothing
• Shoes – even brand new in the box
• TVs larger than 12” and computers
• Lawn mowers and tractors
• Large exercise equipment like stationary bikes, etc.
• Broken appliances, dented pots, and pans, damaged non-stick cookware, rusted items
• Dirty items
• Ceiling fans and chandeliers
• Drapery rods
• Coffee mugs and logo items
• Specialty items
• Personal care products
• Food products
