EYC News
It's good to be back! I would like to thank everyone for the warm welcome back and good wishes in my new position as the EYC Youth Minister. I am very honored that you have chosen me to help you guide the youth of the church on their journey with Christ towards adulthood. For those of you who are thinking adulthood is a long way off, let me tell you it is going to sneak up on you real fast. My youngest left for her first year of college in Alabama recently, and it was a traumatic experience for her dear, old mom. However, both of my children were fortunate to have been a part of strong, faithful, caring youth groups at Pohick. My son was privileged to travel the road to Christ with the Booths and the Crumps, and my daughter enjoyed the love and care of the Booths during her junior high years and was actively involved in a devoted, Christ-centered group during her high school years. I hope and pray that they remember the things they have learned and the love they have received in EYC and draw on it throughout their lives. It is my prayer that the knowledge and love of Christ will be planted in your children's hearts, minds, and spirits during their EYC experience so that they may grow and flourish as disciples of Christ and as members of His holy church. We have a wonderful staff of Advisors and, with your prayers, help, and support we look forward to providing your children with the same. Our year begins on September 7, 2003, with our EYC Kick-Off Party for grades 5-12 at the Pohick Picnic Grounds from 5-7 PM. Please see the complete notice in the newsletter for more details. The meeting schedule remains the same as last year: The 5th/6th grade meets the first and third Sunday of the month, and Jr./Sr. High meets every Sunday, from 6:30-8:00 PM. Beginning in October, on the first Sunday of the month all three groups will meet at 6:00 PM and dinner will be served at the beginning of the meeting. On September 21, all 3 groups will meet at Mason Neck State Park to reflect on our role as stewards of God's creation and for a special presentation on eagles. A copy of the EYC calendar will be posted on the EYC bulletin board in the Common Room and a copy will also be mailed to all registered youth. This year's mission trip to Elizabeth City, North Carolina, was a huge success and we are planning for next year's trip to Brighton, Tennessee, July 11-17, 2004. If your Junior or Senior High youth wants to be a part of next year's mission trip to repair homes for the needy, please notify me as soon as possible so I may reserve a spot for him or her. The camps fill up quickly and once they are full, I will not be able to add any more workers. A $75 non-refundable deposit is required; and, as usual, we will be holding a variety of fundraisers throughout the year to cover the cost of the trip. You may e-mail me at bonniejohnso5@earthlink.net or call me with your child's name, or if you have any questions. Once again, it's good to be back, and I look forward to
working with our wonderful youth.
