Considered Education for Ministry?
Every baptized person is called to ministry. The Education for Ministry (EfM) program provides people from all walks of life with the education to carry out their Christian ministry. Essential to this goal is an education that supports their faith and prepares them to express that faith in every day events.
EfM is a worldwide program developed by the School of Theology of the University of the South. Thousands of persons have completed this four-year program. Students enroll one year at a time, and can transfer almost anywhere in the USA, and many foreign countries. Participants also earn 18 Continuing Education Units per year of the program.
The curriculum is centered on theological reflection, which is the artful spiritual discipline of putting life experiences into conversations with God. It is a practical skill that will provide a way to experience greater meaning in daily life.
Seminar groups work under the leadership of mentors. Mentors are not “teachers” in the traditional sense that are expected to impart information about the Christian tradition. Rather, the role of the “teacher” is built into the program materials. The mentor in EfM provides structure for the group, and enables them to study, engage, and pray together.
Pohick has two EfM groups. Each group meets one night a week during the school year. One group meets on Monday nights and the other on Thursday nights.
