Senior Warden's Report

Many thanks to all who participated in the annual parish retreat at Shrine Mont last month. In addition, the Volunteer Breakfast sponsored by the Vestry was outstanding. Many thanks in particular to Susan Pehrsson and Susanne Leon for putting it together.

            From the June Vestry meeting:

            • Wayne McHargue reviewed the Capital Campaign Feasibility Study. Vestry consideration is ongoing.

            • Reverend Binder indicated that the Search Committee for the Assistant Rector’s position would  conclude by the second week in June.

            • The Vestry also voted to extend permission to Mount Vernon to house the 1838 painting of Pohick for an additional two years.

            • Reverend Foughty indicated that the EYC Road Rally was a success. Turnout may have been affected by the hot weather. All agreed that Kelsey Hodge’s sermon at Youth Sunday was outstanding.

            • Susanne Leon/Susanne Leon, Service and Fellowship, indicated that attendance at the annual volunteer breakfast on 8 June was wonderful. Thanks to Jim and Rebecca From for hosting coffee hour for the Bishop’s reception. Susan also discussed her initiative to look at hosting a preschool at Pohick. She indicated that after initial start-up fees, preschools normally become self-sufficient in a short amount of time. Although non-profit in nature, preschools often contribute to the Church’s budget through donations.

            • Neil Sunderland, Worship, indicated that Linda Egan’s chair replacement was in process through the Wishing Well.

            • John Pasour, Treasurer, could not make the meeting but provided his report in writing. Plate and pledge income for May was slightly below average as a percentage of budget - down 2.1% or $12,300. Expenditures for the month were consistent with budget projections, however Repair and Maintenance was 52% expended and Music was 51% expended.

            • Wayne Biggs and Jeff Parker, Property, briefed that work was underway to paint the Rectory and remove trees felled by recent storms. A number of Boy Scout Eagle Scout proposals are also in process. Wayne and Jeff also recommended that a home inspection be conducted of the Rectory to identify any other maintenance issues.

            • Don Brownlee, Planning and Policy, furnished a draft policy on youth representation on the Vestry. Work on this effort is ongoing.

            • Robin Teale, Pastoral Care, indicated that a Community of Hope meeting would be held the following day.

            • Dana Hutson, Christian Education, indicated that Vacation Bible School was fully staffed and that VBS would be covered on the web site: www.morefuninlorton.com.

            • Stew Remaly, Stewardship, briefed that so far two stewardship articles have been published in the Pohick Post. Many thanks to Jane and Fuzzy Thurston.

           • Steve Harding and Joe Moran, Communication, briefed that there will be a pictorial directory this year. A contract has been signed with Olan Mills. Photos will be taken from July 23-26 in the Parish Hall. One make-up date in September will be scheduled. Steve also briefed that the next Pohick Fair meeting will be held in July.
