Dear Pohick Family,

As you know, over the past several months we have been involved in a search for the position of Assistant to the Rector, an office that will come open on August 1st after the expiration of the present interim arrangement. During this time, an advisory Search Committee assisted me in conducting multiple interviews with a number of qualified candidates. At the conclusion of the process, the Search Committee recommended to me a finalist. I concurred with that recommendation and invited the finalist to meet with our Vestry in order to fulfill its canonical role of voting for confirmation of my nominee. That was accomplished this past week, resulting in the Vestry’s full endorsement.

I am therefore pleased to announce that I have issued a call to the Reverend Lyn Youll Marshall to serve as the Assistant to the Rector. Lyn has accepted the call and will be joining the staff in August. Ordained in the Anglican Church of Canada, she is currently serving as Associate Rector at Little Trinity Anglican Church in downtown Toronto, where she has ministered for the past three years. Prior to that she served as a Rector and Assistant in two other parishes in the Toronto area.

Very much a “people person,” Lyn came to Christianity as an adult and has consequently spent much of her ordained ministry reaching out to the unchurched through use of the popular Alpha course and other community-focused programs. In some of these latter, she has relied on experience gained from her former career in the fashion industry. She will consequently be working closely with our evangelism and outreach ministries, as well as with pastoral care, in addition to regular liturgical responsibilities on Sunday mornings and during the week. Lyn will be moving to Arlington in July, joining her husband Paul, who works with an organization concerned with global religious freedom issues.

I would like to thank all of the members of the Search Committee for both their diligence and sound advice throughout this process: Tom Mayberry, Neil Hogg, Anne Poad, Bill Stewart, Kelsey Hodge, Neil Sunderland, Robin Teale and Dana Hutson. In addition, I would like to thank our Interim Assistant, the Reverend Donna Foughty, for her faithful ministry with us this past year. She will continue her work with our young people through their upcoming Mission Trip, her last Sunday with us being July 27, when we will honor her ministry among us.

At this time, I am also pleased to announce the promotion of Rusty Booth to the position of Youth Minister beginning in August. As I wrote earlier in the year, Rusty has given twenty years of service to the youth of this parish in nearly every available capacity. I am confident he will continue to advance Pohick’s long-time commitment to nurturing the spiritual growth of our teens and young adults.

Finally, I would like to thank all of you for your continuing support of our clergy and staff as we seek to empower every member of our church family live into his or her baptismal vows to serve the world in the name of the Risen Lord. We look forward to the opportunity to do this in some new and exciting ways in the weeks and months ahead, bolstered by your prayers and ongoing commitment to Christ’s call to ministry at Pohick Church.

Faithfully,

The Reverend Donald D. Binder, PhD
Rector
