Pohick Country Fair
Apple Butter Time is just Around the Corner!
Apple Butter and the Annual Country Fair will be here soon. Mark the calendar now to make sure this great tradition is part of the agenda. Making Apple Butter each year is a great time and good fellowship. The participation continues to grow and that is just great. Working four 40 gallon copper kettles on Apple Butter Weekend, and processing 80 bushels of apples into apple butter has proven to be a huge success - but also a lot of work. There is a great deal of satisfaction in a completed job well done. Support from the congregation is the real key to this success. Nothing really happens unless there are a whole lot of volunteers involved.
Apple Butter Weekend is scheduled for Saturday, September 27 and Sunday, September 28 this year. Please mark the calendars now. On Saturday, 80 bushels of apples will be cut and processed into applesauce. The job is usually complete by 5:00 pm. Please bring a paring knife and cutting board. On Sunday, the apple sauce will be cooked down into Apple Butter and canned. Approximately 1000 pint jars of Apple Butter will be made on Apple Butter Weekend and another 400 jars on Fair Day.
It is two full days of great fellowship and wonderful camaraderie. Get to know a lot of people a whole lot better, make a whole bunch of new friends, and get know a lot more things about the history of Pohick Church.
Hodge Podge
Pohickians love Hodge Podge. That’s how to keep the house in order! Wonderful news! Telegraph Self Storage is donating a unit that will be available July 1. Items cannot be left at the Church until August 30 due to other events in the Parish Hall. However, this storage unit means that donations can be taken immediately. It also means there will be space for more and larger pieces.
Additional volunteers are needed for a successful sale. The dedicated workers from last year are needed again this fall. One of the hardworking families has moved, and having the storage unit will require extra help. Please join the team. Lots of fun is guaranteed! Any parishioners that can help with pick-up are also needed.
Check the attic, closets, garage, storage areas, under the beds, and in secret hiding places for contributions. Remember items need to be squeaky clean and in perfect working order. Contact Jeff or Helen Parker for more information.
