Thanks to the Vestry for an outstanding Volunteer Breakfast last
month. The headcount, which was approximately 140-150, was the highest
in memory. Many thanks in particular to Susan Pehrsson and Susanne Leon
for putting it together.
Notes from the June Vestry meeting:
- Rev. Binder was pleased to report that a
total of 26 youth will be going on the mission trip to the New York/Vermont
border.
- Given vacation schedules and a schedule conflict
with the mission trip, the next Vestry meeting will be held on July
17.
- Wayne Biggs discussed the recent fire inspection.
Property stored in the mechanical room and areas under the steps
in the Parish Hall have been removed per the fire marshal’s
recommendation.
- Wayne is also looking at replacing the carpeting
in the nursery which recently sustained water damage. He also discussed
a shed extension plan that would provide more storage, which is especially
needed given the outcome of the fire inspection. Wayne will also investigate
options to donate/sell the old stove from the kitchen. He indicated
that John Sessums is still waiting on estimates for replacing the carpet
in the upstairs and on the stairway of the Parish Hall.
- Wayne also briefed that he was studying the
issue of connecting the sprinkler systems in the Parish Hall. This
system was installed some years ago but could not be connected while
on well water.
- Jane Albertson discussed her recent round-table
discussion with the high school students on the Christian education
program. She indicated that the youth desire a more interactive program
that would allow them to apply lessons from scripture/the Gospel to
their daily lives. She will meet again in August with the seniors and
teaching staff to review options. In the fall, the youth will be refurbishing
one of the trailers.
- In August or early September, there will
be a forum to present the work of the Building Committee on a phased
approach to expand parking, and to refurbish, and eventually expand
the Parish Hall. Many thanks to Roberta Fede and her committee for
several years of exhaustive work.
- John Pasour’s monthly financial update indicates that May’s
plate and pledge income was down considerably from April. Currently,
there is a 3.4% shortfall below the historic average with a year to date
shortfall of nearly $20,000. Repairs to the Rectory’s septic system
totaled $9,766.
