Apple Butter Is Just Around The Corner!
Apple Butter and the Annual Country Fair will soon be here. Time is fast approaching for fixing many key dates associated with the Country Fair. It continues to be a great time and good fellowship to make Apple Butter each year as part of this greater effort. The participation continues to grow and that’s just great! Working four 40 gallon copper kettles on Apple Butter Weekend and processing 80 bushels of apples into apple butter has proven to be a huge success - but also a lot of work. It always feels so good when it is finished. Volunteer support is the real key to this success. Nothing really happens unless a whole lot of volunteers get involved.
This year Apple Butter Weekend is scheduled for September 29 and 30. Mark the calendar now! On Saturday, September 29, 80 bushels of apples will be cut and processed into applesauce. This is usually finished about 5:00 pm. Please bring a paring knife and a cutting board. On Sunday, September 30, the applesauce will be cooked down to apple butter and canned. It is expected that about 1000 pint jars will be canned on Apple Butter Weekend, and another 400 jars on Fair Day.
It is two full days of great fellowship and camaraderie. Get to know people better, make a whole bunch of new friends, and learn more things about the history of Pohick Church during this memorable weekend.
Hodge Podge
Plans for transforming the open expanse of the Common Room into Hodge Podge for Pohick’s Country Fair have begun. Space will be available at the Church for donations AFTER September 1, so please start collecting saleable items now. Be sure everything is squeaky clean and in perfect working order.
There can only be success with everyone’s help! The dedicated group of volunteers who pitched in last year are being counted on for this year, but new recruits are NEEDED to help move to the next level of support. Remember - the pay will be double for the faithful workers of the past, and the sign on bonus for new workers is beyond belief!
Carefully pick donations so that they will be money makers. For those who may require some assistance with their donations or anyone that wants to volunteer, please contact Jeff and Helen Parker.
Book Committee
The Pohick Fair Book Committee is soliciting volunteers to canvas the local community for Country Fair ads. To assist in this endeavor, contact Mike Schmid at michael.e.schmid@lmco.com or Anita Stribling. At least 15 volunteers are needed. It is not difficult work and it definitely makes a difference!
