SENIOR WARDEN'S REPORT

June 2006

Father Binder led us in the Spiritual Welfare of the Cure and Greg Wise led us in Compline.

Father Binder thanked the Vestry for supporting the reception and luncheon for Bishop Eastman on Sunday. Father Binder will send out a reminder parish-wide for the Volunteer Breakfast on Sunday. He plans to recognize orally parishioners that are retiring from long-term ministries, such as Rusty Booth (acolyte leader), Fred Schofield (Sunday School Superintendant), the Boundies, the Jeffries, the Sassins, Ken Wrona (Cementery Warden), and the Crumps.

Father Binder distributed a letter he wrote to the Bishops and Virginia Convention Delegates expressing his views. He advised that a survey for the Coadjutor Bishop profile is online at www.thediocese.net and encouraged us to use it and tell others. Father Binder will be accompanying the youth on their mission trip.

Rev. Piver announced the plans for the Newcomers Reception in August. She also said she has successfully recruited new members for the Community of Hope.

Peter Kind, Senior Warden, thanked the Vestry for their support and attendance at the Sounds of Pohick concert. People in all of our musical ministries performed very well in a varied and touching presentation.

Peter advised the Vestry to begin thinking of candidates for selection to next year’s Vestry. He reminded us of the mission of Pohick Church and pointed out that it is now included on the agenda.

Ken Wrona, Junior Warden, discussed the meeting of the Property Committee and handed out notes. He stated that he too was thankful for the support for the Sounds of Pohick. He said we are very blessed to have Linda Egan as our Minister of Music

Redd Heddleston, Treasurer, reported that Plate and Pledge is within historical range, but on the low side as are most expenditures. The report was accepted as submitted.

The Worship Commission (Father Binder and Ken Evans) reported that Shrinemont will have presentation by Clergy and staff on the theme “Spiritual exercises for the Stressed Out.” Linda Egan will lead an activity on Taize music.

Planning and Policy. Pete Kind discussed the continuing commission meetings and progress on Vestrygrams related to concern over convention issues. He distributed the Vestry letter to Bishop Lee and Bishop Lee’s considerate response.

Resources. The Vestry noted the completion of the lampposts and voted to compensate the Sexton for additional hours worked within the funds allocated. The midrange budget review was held by the Finance Committee. Recommended adjustments were submitted, discussed and approved.

Mission and Outreach (Doug Smith) –Tutor program was completed for this year and dinner for tutors was successful. Sales of African jewelry to support African Teen Ministries was very successful, raising $4500. The adult mission trip to New Orleans was successful. Four people went and helped three families renovate their homes. The trip was financed by generous donations from church ministries including the Episcopal Church Women, Ann Mason and Martha Guilds, Brotherhood of St. Andrew, and others.

Christian Education. (Sarah Booth/Neil Hogg). The EYC held a farewell to Seniors The Senior class has bonded through their mission trips. They have a tight community. Andy Fluet told the Juniors they are now the role models. Youth Sunday went well. VBS is coming along although there is a conflict with a Boy Scouting event. The teachers for Sunday school next year are lined up. Rusty Booth will be the Superintendent with Kelly Piconti as the assistant.

Stewardship (Jane Thurston/Edwardene Pitcock). Held planning meeting for Fall campaign. Wishing well will be ready on Sunday.

Property (Ken Wrona/Mike Wooten) – Fall Clean up is Nov 4. Eagle Scout Project will be reviewed. Require that they identify maintenance needed. The church as a list of potential projects.

Service and Fellowship (Joe Moran) – The Volunteer Breakfast is scheduled for Sunday, 18 June. Plans were finalized for preparing and serving the meal.

Communications (Susan Pehrsson). Pew cards were discussed, modified and approved for purchase.

Reverend Piver led us in closing prayer.
