EYC NEWS During the week of July 8 – July 15, twenty teens and six chaperones will be heading to Smithers, WV to join 400 additional teens in repairing homes for the elderly, disabled, and poor. Smithers is a coal mining town, so as part of the trip, the Pohick group will be touring a coal mining museum to learn and understand the experience and culture of the individuals being helped. Parishioners can and are welcome to send the teens and chaperones emails of encouragement. To send an email, go to www.groupworkcamps.com, and click on “Email a Camper” link. Select the location of the workcamp (Smithers, WV) and address the email to an individual teen or chaperone. To send a message to the group as a whole, address the email to Jen Crump-Strawderman. Several EYC events have been scheduled for this summer. The summer starts with a baby shower for the Junior High EYC advisor, Gray Raniella, on Saturday July 29 at Pohick Church from 2:00 - 4:00 pm. On Wednesday, August 9 all three EYC groups are invited to spend the day at Kings Dominion. Parent chaperones will be needed for this event – please contact Jen Crump-Strawderman. The summer will end with a movie night at the Church on Sunday, August 27 at 6:00 pm. Join the fun of a movie, popcorn, and ice cream. For more information on these events, check the EYC bulletin board in the Common Room, or call Jen. Thanks to the EYC volunteers this year. The youth group has been blessed to have such wonderful advisors this year: Karen Godley Awenowicz, Kristina Myers, Gray Raniella, and Laurie Holly. Special thanks to Joe and Susan Moran who have volunteered the last several years to be the EYC dinner coordinators. Thanks also to Andy and Nicole Fluet for hosting small groups at the beginning of the year. Finally, a big thanks to all the parents who have volunteered as chaperones and drivers for the EYC events this year. Without this assistance, the teens could not have participated in all the fun events.
