HEALTH NEWS

Last month information was presented on hyper- tension. Hopefully, the information was helpful and the new knowledge is being put into practice. A Blood Pressure Screening is scheduled for July 24, after both services. Plan to attend this free check up!

With the summer months, there is usually an increase in physical activity. Physical activity can contribute to feeling better and improved health. There are many fun active things that can be done individually or with family and friends. Children and adults should participate in at least 30 minutes of moderate physical activity each day. It can be done all at once or 10 minutes at a time, three times a day. For those not used to being active, start out slowly and work up to thirty minutes a day. Add more activities for longer periods of time and then try to add more vigorous activity. The more movement, the better. Check out some of these simple activities to get started TODAY!

To perk up:
• Get up 15 minutes earlier in the morning and stretch.
• Jog in place.
• Ride a stationary bike while watching TV.
• Work out along with an exercise video.

For a quick workout:
• Use the stairs instead of the elevator.
• Walk to the bus or train stop.
• Walk to each end of the mall when shopping.
• Park the car a few blocks away from the destination and walk the rest of the way.

To have fun:
• Play some favorite dance music. Do old favorite dance steps, and add some new moves.
• Jump rope or play tag with the kids or grandkids.
• Use hand-held arm weights while talking on the phone.
• Gardening is great exercise and good for the soul.
• Drink lots of water- 8 to 10 glasses a day when exercising, and during warm weather,
drink even more.
