APPLE BUTTER TIME IS JUST AROUND THE CORNER!
Apple Butter and the Annual Country Fair will be here soon, and it is time to mark down some key dates. Along with being a Pohick tradition, making Apple Butter is a fun time with great fellowship. Apple Butter Weekend participation continues to grow, and that’s just great! Along with being a great deal of work, processing 80 bushels of apples, and working four 40 gallon copper kettles produces the delicious and infamous Pohick apple butter. Support from the congregation is the real key to this endeavor, and nothing can be accomplished without many volunteers. Apple Butter Weekend is scheduled for Saturday, September 24 and Sunday, September 25, 2005. Put these dates on the calendar now, and plan to help at this annual event. On Saturday, 80 bushels of apples need to be cut, and processed into applesauce. Please bring a paring knife and cutting board. On Sunday, the applesauce is cooked down to Apple Butter, and canned. Approximately 1000 pint jars will be canned on Apple Butter Weekend, and another 400 jars will be canned on Fair Day. It is two full days of great fellowship and camaraderie. Get to know a lot of people a whole lot better, make a whole bunch of new friends, and learn more about the history of Pohick Church. Jim Foster is renowned for his story telling - something about salmon fishing in Alaska and grizzly bears seem to be a recurring theme. Help is needed and wanted. Please plan to attend, and be a part of this wonderful annual event.
