MUSIC NOTES Rejoice, ye pure in heart! Rejoice, give thanks, and sing! The Sounds of Pohick Annual Free Concert is Saturday, June 3, 2006, at 4:00 pm. Be sure to come, and invite your friends. With all the angel choirs, with all the saints of earth. Hear the Choir of Pohick, the Pohick Bell Choir, the St. Francis Choir, the St. Cecelia/ St. Albans Choir, and the Pohick Pickers in concert in the Church. Pour out the strains of joy and bliss, true rapture, noblest mirth. There will be music by Gibbons, Howells, Mallory, McChesney, Mozart, Sametz, Sleeth, and Strommen. There will be spirituals, hymns, and gospel music. Hosanna, hosanna! Rejoice, give thanks, and sing. Voices of children, teenagers, and adults will be accompanied by organ, handbells, piano, guitars, and strings. A great way to spend the end of a June afternoon. Don’t miss it!
THANK YOU, THANK YOU, THANK YOU! So very many people make music possible here. The music committee, Don Brownlee, Jackie Wells, and Jud Sage, provide assistance and advice several times each week. Barbara Lynn directs the St. Francis Choir, and John Sessums directs the Pohick Pickers. These two are music professionals who contribute a great deal of planning, rehearsal, and music arranging time to Pohick. Two dozen adults meet weekly to sing anthems and service music in the Choir of Pohick. Eleven ringers and two subs practice weekly to ring handbells in the Bell Choir. A dozen children and teens rehearse weekly in the St. Cecelia/St. Albans Choir, and their parents give them rides, support, and encouragement. And, many very young children and their parents gather weekly to sing in the St. Francis Choir. More than a dozen instrumentalists play in the Pohick Pickers. Wow! This type of loyalty, dedication, and musicianship are so important to music for worship. Gathering to rehearse and to make music in services to the glory of God, grateful to be able to sing, ring, and play His praises. |
