Music Notes My life flows on in endless song; above earth’s lamentation The Sounds of Pohick annual free concert is Saturday, June 2, 2007, at 4:00 pm. Be sure to come, and invite friends. I catch the sweet, though far-off hymn that hails a new creation. Performances will be heard by the Choir of Pohick, the Pohick Bell Choir, the St. Francis Choir, the St. Cecelia St. Alban Choir, and the Pohick Pickers in concert in the Church. No storm can shake my inmost calm while to that Rock I’m clinging There will be music by Brahms, Britten, Bagley, Egan, Geschke, McChesney, Rogers, Sessums, and Strommen. There will be spirituals, hymns, and gospel music. Since Christ is Lord of heaven and earth, how can I keep from singing? Voices of children, teenagers, and adults will be accompanied by organ, handbells, piano, guitars, Orff instruments, and percussion. After all that good music, come share refreshments in the Common Room. It will be a great way to spend the end of a June afternoon. Don’t miss it! Thanks to the cantors who sang on Wednesdays during Lent: Susan McHargue, Jud Sage, Jeff Parker and Mason Botts. Thanks also to the choir members who attended each week. Everyone discovered the beauty of music from Taize in both its simplicity and complexity. Could anyone doubt that Christ had risen after hearing the St. Francis Choir sing “He is alive again” on Easter Sunday? Thanks to all the choristers and their parents for their hard work and dedication to singing, and to their director, Barb Lynn for showing the way. All the members of the Choir of Pohick gave many extra hours to prepare and sing for the Holy Week services. Singing the music of Stainer, Mozart and Britten takes a lot of work. Thanks for all the extra effort. Loyalty, dedication, and musicianship are so important to music for worship at Pohick. The choirs gather to rehearse and to make music in services to the glory of God, grateful to be able to sing, ring, and play His praises. |
