Shrine Mont Work Weekend Thanks to all Pohickians for supporting the March work weekend at Shrine Mont. The weather was chilly (25 degrees Sunday morning), but at least it was sunny and warmed up nicely in the afternoon. Approximately 80 folks (15 from Pohick) from all over Virginia congregated to accomplish many landscaping, maintenance, painting, and repair projects throughout the grounds. The Bland boys and John Pasour accomplished a noteworthy project of constructing a new walkway leading into the Tucker House where the dining hall and meeting rooms are located. It is a first-class effort. There was great socializing on both Friday and Saturday nights with a roaring fire built by Neil Sunderland and Alan Mayberry. The statewide group is small enough to have a chance to meet and talk to everyone. It is a great environment because everyone knows why they are there i.e. to work hard and get stiff backs, legs, necks, etc. On Sunday, there was an inspiring service by two rectors, Harrison Simmons, who runs the Shrine Mont bookstore and lives in NC, and one from Richmond . Hopefully next year, the Pohick group can be doubled to 30. It is very interesting to note the way a church builds a positive reputation on the state level by participating in this kind of event.
