Senior Warden's Report
May, 2004

What a glorious Easter Celebration! Over 700 people participated in the four Easter Sunday services. The Sunday services started with the lighting of the Paschal Candle at Sunrise and continued throughout the morning with three wonderful services. Thanks to all that helped to make this a most memorable event praising are Risen Christ! The entire Holy Week seemed extra special this year! Now, notes from our April Vestry meeting:

The Pohick Vestry met April 13. Father Binder opened the session with the Spiritual Welfare of the Cure, remembering those in our Parish that are in need of prayer.

Father Binder discussed the search process for an EYC Director. The Finance Committee was asked to review the possibility of making the position half time. The position is very demanding and requires more than quarter time. This is based on the experience with the last two EYC Directors. The Finance Committee will report on this action at the May meeting.

Lori Buckius and Carmel Hodge have volunteered to take over production of the Pohick Post. Thank you both for taking on this very important responsibility.

Rev Jane Piver reported that she is sponsoring a Pilgrimage to the National Cathedral on 5 June. She is also planning a fall retreat for the women of the Church.

No Vestry Grams were received since the last meeting. We will continue to publish the responses to Vestry Grams in the Post.

Several property issues were discussed:

  • The water installation contract is ready for signature. Construction is expected to begin immediately.
  • The assistive listening system in the Church is being upgraded. More details on this subject will be published soon.
  • Eagle Scout candidate Andy Wilson and Boy Scout Troop 1145 will install new steps to the Picnic Ground on 24 April. This is the second project Troop 1145 has undertaken on the Church property.
  • The new phone system is fully operational. We now have a state of the art system with one main number and multiple voice mail systems. The number to the Church is 703-339-6572.

Pete Kind presented the treasurer's report for the period ending March 31st. The financial picture continues to be strong, with revenue exceeding expenditures. We are well on the way to a balanced budget for 2004. Pohick continues to grow!

The organ fund is now fully funded. The rebuilding of the organ will begin in late April and will be finished in November. We will have the glorious sounds of Vicky's piano while this historic restoration is underway. Thanks to all that made this project a reality.

The Vestry finished the update to the Strategic Plan, based on the congregations input. This plan is updated bi-annually. Final review is underway and should be ready for publication this summer.

Hope you all have a wonderful spring!

Randy Brooks
Senior Warden
