JUNIOR WARDEN'S REPORT

April 2006

In preparation for the return of good weather, the Property Commission met on March 4 to consider activities for the Spring and beyond. John Sessums, Sexton, reviewed a comprehensive list of items requiring maintenance. The list ranged from over fifty small jobs to major work such as the replacement/refurbishment of much of the trim work on the Parish House.

Saturday, May 14, has been designated annual Spring Cleanup Day. Last Fall’s Cleanup was hampered by bad weather that forced most of the volunteers to work on inside projects. A lot of great work was done, but with good weather in May, work can be accomplished on a backlog of outdoor projects. All volunteers are strongly encouraged to be at the Church to start at 8:00 am . As usual, lunch will be served and it will be enjoyable. These cleanups have always been great opportunities not only to donate talent toward the maintenance of the buildings and property, but to meet and work with fellow parishioners in an atmosphere of fellowship.

The “to do” list is never completed on Cleanup days, and new things are always popping up. Please contact Ken Wrona, Mike Wooten, or John Sessums to volunteer for additional time and talent that can be donated to the Church.

On March 11, the Senior Warden and the Junior Warden attended a meeting of the Pohick Historic Church Commission. The Commission reviewed a full plate of near and far term activities. While Pohick Church is first and foremost a house of worship, it is also a structure of significant historical importance. The Commission is devoted to preserving Pohick Church as a part of American Heritage. The Vestry coordinates closely with the Commission in this important work.
