MUSIC NOTES

Thanks to all the choirs for the time and energy given to Lent and Easter this year! The dedication and effort of the choir members has made the season even more special. Thanks for the continued contributions.

The next three months will be the last of the choir season. How sad as it has truly been a great year. April is a fairly quiet month, which will include some rest time for the choirs to recover from Lent and Easter Sunday as well as to gear up for the end of the year festivities. Pohick will again host The Sacred Harp Singing Convention, which will be held on Saturday, April 2. This style of music has become quite popular since the release of the movie Cold Mountain. All interested singers are welcome! Skill is not a requirement, there is always someone willing to help spread the magic of Sacred Harp singing. Registration is at 12:20 pm, and the singing begins at 1:00 pm. All are encouraged to either sing or stop by to listen to this singing tradition.

Due to a planned trip to England to visit churches and the countryside, rehearsals for April 20 and 21 will be cancelled. The following week rehearsals will resume with a guest director and organist. Be sure to attend these rehearsals to welcome the guest musicians and to prepare for the end of year musical events.

Following is a reminder of important upcoming dates to mark on the calendar:

• Saturday, April 2: Sacred Harp Convention in the Pohick Church Common Roomfrom 1:00 - 5:30 pm with registration at 12:20 pm. 
• Wednesday, April 20: No Rehearsals. 
• Thursday, April 21: No Rehearsals.
• Friday, June 3: Dress Rehearsal for Sounds of Pohick Hymn Festival from 6:00 - 8:00 pm. 
• Saturday, June 4: Sounds of Pohick Hymn Festival at 4:00 pm.
• Sunday, June 19: Bishop’s Visit and Confirmation Choir of Pohick, St. Cecilia, and St. Alban.
