Recently, a parishioner inquired if there is a formula for sharing the cost of altar flowers when there is more than one contributor. In over seven years this question never arose; so an immediate answer was not ready.
Following is information concerning the functions of the Flower Guild.
Quite often, the “flower girls” supplement the arrangement with their own money should the flowers be more expensive that week, or if it is a special Sunday, or there is an especially beautiful flower available.
In addition to the flowers, there are additional expenses involved: oasis, wire, ribbon, containers, liners, dowels, kissing ball frames, straws, trash bags, paper towels, and even a broom now and then. The overwhelming generosity of the congregation for lilies at Easter and poinsettias at Christmas help to defray these expenses. There have even been times when the Flower Guild has been able to contribute to Church projects like the new copier.
For those interested in becoming a member of the Flower Guild, it is easy and satisfying. For more information, ask any member or call Anita Stribling.
So, to answer the original question, the flowers are given to the “Glory of God.” Remember Matthew 5:16 - Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.
