Music Notes Thanks to all the instrumentalists who play at Pohick. The Pohick Pickers are playing every month, in addition to playing for gigs as Pohick’s ambassadors. Katherine Wrona recently played the bassoon for the 11:15 am service. Three members of the St. Cecelia St. Alban Choir, Hannah Goeller, Grant Smith, and Devon Goeller, accompanied the choir in its recent anthem, “Cantad.” There will be a lot more instrument playing from this choir with the use of the wonderful collection of Orff instruments owned by Pohick. This group of singers and instrumentalists is for grades 4-12. Come on out and sing and play these instruments! In Lent, the service music changes to reflect the change of season. In Rite I, the Merbecke Agnus Dei will be added. In Rite II, the Trisagion replaces the Gloria, and settings written by David Hurd will be sung. There will also be another psalm tune, while continuing to use the same method of singing the psalm, which is called “Simplified Anglican Chant.” Currently, the psalm is sung by chanting the text on the reciting tone, and changing the note at the last accented syllable in the text. If the last syllable is a pronoun, the note change is on the next to last accented syllable. Thanks also to the cantors for the Taize services on Wednesday evenings at 8:00 pm. Be sure to come and join in singing these beautiful, simple songs. |
