JUNIOR WARDEN'S REPORT
There is a deep appreciation for Church staff and parish volunteers who have great interest in preserving Pohick Church. It requires a great deal of daily focus on attention to safety and health concerns, preventive maintenance, and ultimately cosmetic improvements to keep the buildings habitable for work and worship. The historic significance of the Church clearly presented itself while on a recent visit to Washington’s Mount Vernon Estate. With a trip to the new Donald W. Reynolds Museum and Education Center at Mount Vernon, visitors can see a replica pew, alter piece complete with cross in the window, and an interior picture of Pohick Church on display, proclaiming this the colonial place of worship for the Washington family. What a great presentation for the thousands of potential Pohickians who visit on a daily basis. The charge of the congregation is to keep Pohick Church as inviting as possible. This comes from the parishioners as well as building presentation. Currently, several projects are under way. Thanks to the bequest of a generous benefactor, the Church doors are undergoing restoration and should be complete by Holy Week. Other improvements under research are an update to the fire protection system, the installation of a church sound system, and various Parish Hall improvements, which include the replacement of carpet leading into the building. Consideration for other projects is under investigation by various committees and funding sources. Spring is near and with it comes the fun of the annual Church spring cleanup. This year’s cleanup is scheduled for Saturday, April 28. Many volunteers are needed to make this event successful. The day will culminate with rewards of food and fellowship.
