SENIOR WARDEN'S REPORT March 2006 Father Binder led the Spiritual Welfare of the Cure and Pete Kind led Compline for the Vestry meeting of February 14, 2006 . Seat and voice were granted to Don and Darlene O’Connell and John Pasour, Pohick’s representatives to the Diocesan Convention, who reported on the proceedings and results. The proceedings and resolutions are available at www.thediocese.net. Don, Darlene, and John will be happy to answer individual questions. Father Binder presented the 2005 Parochial Report for discussion and approval before signature and forwarding to the Diocese. Last year, Pohick added 62 new people and lost 79 people to yield the total Active Baptized Members at 844. There are 683 communicants in good standing with 166 of them under the age of 16. The average Sunday attendance is 321. Easter attendance was 696. The Holy Eucharist was celebreated 135 times on Sundays, 118 times during weekdays, and 48 times in private settings. There were 16 burials, and 145 students enrolled in Church School . The total dollar amount pledged was $470,059 with total revenues at $788,672.41, and total expenses at $736,048.08. Father Binder also discussed a new proposal for Lenten Suppers to resolve reports from parishoners that there was insufficient time to prepare food in time to be at the Common Room for supper at 6:30 pm . After discussion, the Vestry approved, and asked five of the Pohick services - Brotherhood of St. Andrew, Choir, Martha Guild, Ann Mason Guild and the Vestry - to prepare and serve a simple meal of soup and salad in keeping with the Lenten spirit. Reverend Piver announced the Blood Mobile visit scheduled for April 2, and the End of Life Forum scheduled for April 30. Pete Kind, Senior Warden, discussed agenda format changes, Country Fair considerations, and the need to review indemnity/liability insurance to insure currency and understanding. Ken Wrona, Junior Warden, discussed the need to schedule a tree and limb clean-up day to clear refuse from the recent wind and snow storms. Reed Heddleston presented the Treasurer’s Report. The first month of the year is on budget considering front loaded quarterly expenses. In commission reports, Ken Evans, Worship, reported plans to renew the Easter Morning run/walk carrying the flame from the National Cathedral, and the sunrise service with hot cross buns. Father Binder announced the change in rehearsal times for the St. Cecilia and St. Alban choirs to 12:30 pm - 1:30 pm on Sunday afternoons beginning in March. Linda Egan is taking this initiative to better accommodate the desires of the participants. Under Planning and Policy, Pete Kind discussed progress in the Building Committee meetings with the architectural firm. Priorities determined from Vestry retreat, which included education space and parking, were also discussed and favorably received. In Mission and Outreach, Reverend Piver announced VTS discussion of Katrina Relief options. Pete Kind announced that Chet Humberd, a member of the Falls Church , will present a discussion with graphic slides of his week in Lousiana helping rebuild homes in December. All are welcome at 9:00 am on Saturday, February 25 in the Annex. In Christian Education, Sarah Booth announced proceeds of $430 from the Super Bowl Bake Sale and emphasized the Pancake Supper on Shrove Tuesday, February 28. Jane Thurston, Stewardship, gave a very positive report on stewardship, indicating that there are 250 pledges totaling $508,941. Prior to the meeting, several Vestry members attended a briefing on web services that are capable of scheduling events and contributing electronically. Discussion included the availability of direct to bank electronic transfer for pledge and offering. Instructions on how to do this will be prepared for a future edition. Ken Wrona, Property, is looking for new members on the Property Committee. Please call Ken if interested. The Vestry approved the availability of beer and wine at the St. Patrick’s Day dinner. Reverend Piver led the closing prayer.
