EYC NEWS

Thanks to everyone who bought goodies and snacks from the EYC on Super Bowl Sunday. Four hundred and thirty dollars were raised toward the summer Mission Trip. The youth are truly blessed to have so much support from the congregation!

The next fundraiser is scheduled for late March. Everyone is invited to kick back and relax at the upcoming EYC Coffeehouse. Bring a friend! No doubt they will enjoy the talent showcase. That’s right, music, dance, and poems while enjoying a popular brand of coffee. Yep, Starbucks (Lorton Shoppes location on Ox Road ) has graciously agreed to donate coffee and hot chocolate for the event. NEW THIS YEAR: attendees can also take the stage to share their talent! Please contact Jen Crump-Strawderman no later than March 15 at h8meats@earthlink.net to be added to the showcase program. Come one, come all, come young, come young at heart, and take the stage and enjoy the spotlight, or just enjoy snacks and a warm beverage.

There are still several spaces open for the summer Mission Trip. All rising 9th graders through graduating seniors are welcome to join the trip on July 8 through 15 as the EYC group heads to Smithers, West Virginia to repair homes for the elderly, disabled, and poor. Smithers is considered a coal mining town and is located near the site of a recent coal mining tragedy. Hopefully, this mission trip will help with the healing process for the community with hard work and Christian love. This is not only a great opportunity to help those in need, but also to strengthen personal spirituality through fellowship and programs. For teens interested in attending the mission trip, please contact Jen Crump-Strawderman for more information.

The Junior and Senior EYC Spring Retreat is fast approaching. On March 10, the EYC will head to Raven Rock Lutheran Camp in Sabillasville , MD for a weekend of fellowship and fun. With bible study focused on the New Testament, this is more than just an opportunity to hang out with friends. From this event tucked away in the mountains, every person will take away something of substance from this great experience. For more information or to RSVP, contact Jen Crump-Strawderman no later than February 28.

The Lenten program will begin in March and will be held every Wednesday night through Lent. “Prayer and learning how to do it” will be the youth focus this year. A series of dynamic prayer activities have been planned and each evening will be a unique opportunity to learn a little more about the communication lines with the Lord. Please plan to attend the Lenten programs and encourage EYCers to participate.
