SENIOR WARDEN'S REPORT
The Vestry met on February 3, 2005, after fellowship and food at the EYC Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper. The Pancake Supper turnout was happily large this year, and the cooks and servers did a great job. Thanks so very much to all.
After the spiritual welfare of the cure, Father Binder led the last session of the Vestry retreat dealing with the Vestry's temporal duties. Father Binder has directed this series in a way that has led to a much better understanding of the church and respective responsibilities. There is an increased understanding both spiritually and socially of individuals that makes the Vestry better prepared to serve as they have been selected to do.
Father Binder provided excerpts from Bishop Lee's address at Council, and the resolution that was adopted (both are available on line at www.thediocese.org). Father Binder encouraged the Vestry to share this understanding of the resolution with the Congregation – good coffee hour discussion.
Reverend Piver described the Magnetic Church conference to be held in April, and encouraged attendance.
The Senior Warden presented the annual Parochial Report for approval prior to dispatch to the Diocese. Highlights include 81 new members with 69 departing members. The total active baptized membership at year end is 861. The average Sunday attendance is 333; Easter attendance was 618; weekday Eucharists draw 121; private Eucharists 54; burials totaled 10; and Church School enrollment was 169. The complete report is posted on the Church bulletin board.
The Junior Warden addressed the need to revisit the tree maintenance funding that was eliminated from the budget as one of the measures to reduce the projected deficit. He will provide a detailed report for Vestry action in March. Because of Pohick's majestic and historic trees, the Vestry will probably see the need to take positive action to preserve the trees.
The Treasurer reported that January plate and pledge income was down to a seven year low - most likely a result of reduced attendance caused by two snow Sundays. The increase in membership and all time high plate and pledge in December indicate that January is not indicative of a new trend. Dave Lehner thanked everyone for the well attended organ dedication. This historic moment was enabled by the leap of faith that the repairs were important, and the resulting contributions by many. Special thanks to Vicky for her superb selection of music to demonstrate the new and varied capabilities of the organ as well as her immersed and feeling performance of master pieces. Thanks also to Bill Wrench, and all who helped with the reception.
Connie Eppley described the Lenten Dinner series, and noted the signup sheets.
Separate from the Vestry meeting: Some of the EYC members joined the Brotherhood of Saint Andrew breakfast after the EYC overnight lockdown at the church. It was clearly evident that they enjoyed the fellowship; the Brotherhood enjoyed having them participate. |
