SENIOR WARDEN'S REPORT On January 11, 2005, the Vestry held its annual farewell dinner at The Fairfax to honor the outgoing Vestry members. After dinner, the outgoing Vestry members were thanked for their service, and they shared some thoughts and words of wisdom for the new Vestry members. Those in attendance included: Bob Armstrong, Bruce Baird, Diane Bland, Randy Brooks, Nicole Fluet, and D'Andrea Wooten. Rebecca Gray and Blaise Burry were unable to attend.
Notes from the January meeting:
Father Binder discussed procedural details for the Vestry Retreat (January 20-21), which will be held at the College of the Preachers, Washington Cathedral. Father Binder also announced that Cokie Roberts and an ABC News team would visit Pohick Church on January 12 to film a special entitled “Founding Mothers.” Martha Washington and Ann Mason will be among the women honored in the special presentation.
Reverend Piver noted the widespread use of nametags during the Newcomer's Reception, and encouraged everyone to wear nametags regularly.
Pete Kind, Senior Warden, thanked those who supported the Newcomer's Reception. There were 31 Newcomers - twice the amount of last year. Special thanks to Anne Poad and Grace DeLaune for coordinating the reception. Pete also discussed administrative details for the Vestry Retreat.
Ken Wrona, Junior Warden, coordinated the keys and open/lockup procedures. Jim Hayes gave the Vestry an update on changing the boiler maintenance contract to improve service and reduce cost. In conjunction with the Route 1 widening, sensors will be installed on Pohick Church to measure deviations, if any, due to construction. Jim expects the permit to be granted the week of January 18 to allow construction of the new rectory driveway at the Route 1 and Pohick Road intersection.
Ken Evans, Treasurer, presented the estimated final report for calendar year 2004. A record plate/pledge contribution for December, coupled with a cemetery operations surplus resulted in an excess for the year sufficient to allow a transfer of $10,000 to the Building Capital Fund. Final numbers will be included in next month's report.
Jane Thurston provided an update on the Stewardship Campaign. To date, there are 199 pledges totaling $458,000, the same number of pledges and approximately the same amount of money as last year. Of the pledges received, 15% are new pledgers. Many thanks to all those pledging, and the Stewardship Committee. Pete Kind |
