HEALTH NEWS

February is Heart Month.  It is important to understand that heart disease is the number one killer of women.  Because of this fact, the Heart Association wants women to know that February 4 is National Wear Red Day for Women.  Women are being encouraged to wear red to show that they have taken charge of their heart health, and that they want to live a longer and stronger life.

Ways to GO RED

  • Call 1-888-MY-HEART and receive a free red dress pin.
  • MOVE! Step or jog in place for 15 minutes a day while watching TV, talking on the     telephone, or taking a lunch break.
  • Keep raw veggies and fruit in the front of the fridge, and hide unhealthy foods.
  • Schedule a check up with a healthcare professional, and follow her recommendations.
  • Support life-saving heart research and education.GO RED, the color for women and heart disease – make it a personal color, too!

On this same topic - CPR Classes.  It is a pleasure to report 14 parishioners have been trained in CPR and in the use of the AED (Automatic External Defibrillator). The AED is now a permit fixture in the Parish Hall at Pohick Church.  It hangs on the wall across from the office. Be sure to look for the AED so the location is well known in the event of a future emergency.  Another training class can easily be scheduled if there is interest.  Contact Carol Heddleston by email at cheddleston@comcast.net to express interest in training.
