Time Capsule

The New Year is a big deal! As people get older and think about memories, there may be many that are forgotten. So why not make a time capsule, to open in the future, to record all the important stuff going on right now!

First, get a clean coffee can and some waterproof tape. That’s going to be the capsule! Then, decide what to put in the capsule. It should be things that personally mean something right now, and things that might be funny or cool when the capsule is opened again many years from now!

Here are some ideas:

Photographs (put them in a plastic baggie)
Ticket stubs from a favorite movie
A tape of a favorite song
A list of best friends
Collage of cool stuff
Pages from magazines
Newspaper articles
A letter from a friend to the future
A videotape of family and friends
A paragraph about goals
Anything else!

Then, bury the time capsule in the back yard, and make a map with instructions about how to find it! Keep a copy of the map, and give one to parents for safe-keeping. Now, here’s the deal: The capsule should not be opened for 10 years! When it is opened, it will be pretty surprising to see everything forgotten!
