December 2011

Welcome to the Pohick Post Online!

Although it hardly seems possible, December has arrived and the season of Advent is suddenly upon us. Confused about the relationship between Advent and Christmas? Click here for a quick review.

This month's Epost offers several ways for you to spread the season's cheer, including gift collections for our annual Christmas Party for New Hope Housing (Dec 12) and Breakfast with Santa (Dec 17). We also need help in arranging these two wonderful events, so please sign-up in the parish hall if you're able to help!

We do have to tend to a bit of business at the start of the season, including the election of five new vestry members and the ratification of a youth vestry representative at our Annual Parish Meeting on Sunday, Dec. 4 at 10:30 am in the Common Room. Remember, in order to vote you must be a baptized member of this congregation sixteen years or older who "for the previous year [has] been faithful in corporate worship, unless for good cause prevented, and [has] been faithful in working, praying, and giving for the spread of the Kingdom of God" (Canon I.17.3). Please phone the office if you have any questions regarding your membership status.

While the ballots are being counted, we will hear reports from the clergy, wardens and other leaders of the church about all that has been accomplished this year, as well as some of our plans for 2012. Want to help Rodger Jones, our Stewardship Co-Chair have a glowing report? Then please mail-in your 2012 Pledge Card, if you haven't done so already.

As we have done for several years now, late in the Advent Season we will be enjoying together a Lessons & Carols service on the Fourth Sunday of Advent (Dec 18) at 10 am (Holy Eucharist at 8 am). On Christmas Eve, we will have our usual Family Service at 6 pm and Festival Midnight Mass at 11 pm, preceded by 1/2 hour of anthems and carols. There will only be one service on Christmas Day (10 am), a Sunday this year. Likewise, we will be on a holiday schedule for New Year's Day (also a Sunday), with services at 8 and 10 am. Want to learn more about the adventures of the Twelve Days of Christmas? Read our Rector's reflections on Christmas then and now.

Discover more about these services and events and much, much more in this month's E-Post!

Please note that the main body of the E-Post is now published in HTML-5, so make sure you have updated your web browser to the latest version in order to read it clearly. If you prefer, you may download a pdf version instead. Also, our website now makes use of Google Calendars, so if you have a gmail account (or sign-up for a free one), you can now superimpose the church calendar on top of your other calendars.
