November 2009 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! The days have shortened, autumn leaves are piling up, and fall jackets are beginning to make an appearance. Before long Thanksgiving, Advent and Christmas will be here, and there's lots in this month's Epost to help you get ready! Our Junior Warden and Sexton kick it off with our Fall Clean-up Day this Saturday, Nov 7 (9 am - 2 pm with lunch served). Come on out and help us spruce up the church property for the holidays! The women of the church have long been busy with their Christmas Mart preparations (Nov. 19), and they too have lots of ways for you to help! Later in the month, our Sunday school will begin to rehearse for our Christmas pageant, and they, along with the EYC and Vestry will also sponsor our Advent Wreath Making workshop and Potluck (Nov. 22). Thanksgiving Day services (9 am) come not long after that, but before you even get there, don't forget our Thanksgiving food basket drive to help needy families in our community enjoy a great Thanksgiving Day dinner. Speaking of drives, if you haven't sent in your Pledge Card for 2010, please prayerfully consider doing so in order for us to keep our many ministries at Pohick flourishing in the coming year. "Remember the words of our Lord Jesus Christ, that it is more blessed to give than to receive" (Acts 20:35). In this month's E-Post, our Rector explores the beginnings of our Thanksgiving holiday and how that can offer inspiration for our celebrations today. Our Assistant writes about the pastoral ministry of the Community of Hope, while our Senior Warden issues his monthly report on vestry business. There's also lots on the upcoming Christmas Mart and other holidays events. Finally, as an added bonus to this month's edition, check out the online collage of pictures from this year's fantastically successful Pohick Country Fair! Read about these events and lots, lots more in this month's E-Post! Remember, the main body of the E-Post is now published in Adobe Flash and requires the Flashplayer plugin. Download it here for free if you do not have it installed. You may also download a pdf version. As always, don't forget
