November 2005 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! The Indian Summer continues. But with the leaves slowly dropping, we all know that it can't last for long. Soon the holiday season will be upon us, with a nip in the air and perhaps a snowflake or two to remind us of the march of time. The approach of Advent and Christmas brings many wonderful activities at Pohick. The Thursday before Thanksgiving (Nov. 17) is our annual Christmas Mart, with all its many crafts and goodies on sale—all for a good cause. Three days later, we host our Advent Wreath Making Workshop and Potluck, always a wonderful time of fellowship and preparation for the new liturgical Season. Lastly for this month, remember that Thanksgiving is more than a day of eating, it is a day of giving thanks to God for all the many blessings we've received. Come on out to say thanks at our 9 am service on that day while waiting for the turkey to cook. This month our Rector reports on the reinstituted search for a new Minister of Music, while our Assistant reflects upon the place of pilgrimages in our Christian spirituality. Our Sr. Warden and Jr. Warden report on vestry activities, while our Parish nurse highlights our upcoming Blood Drive on Sunday, November 13. If you haven't yet sent in your pledge card, please prayerfully consider your support of our ministries at Pohick and send it on in. Doing so will help us to budget for the coming year. Likewise, if you have the talent of teaching and are available on Tuesday evenings, consider becoming a tutor for some young students coming to us from Gunston Elementary. This long-running program still needs volunteers so that no child is ever turned away. Read about these things and much more in this month's E-Post! As always, please send your Pohick Post Articles to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th). Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org. Monthly Columns
