October 2008

Welcome to the Pohick Post Online!

The forecast for this Saturday is mostly Sunny with a high of 74 degrees—a perfect day for the 63rd Annual Pohick Fair! Come on out and enjoy all the festivities with music from the Pohick Pickers, pony rides and games for the kids, mouth-watering Bar-B-Que for everyone, and of course, the smell of bubbling Apple Butter wafting through the air.

While you're out, pitch-in for an hour or two between 10 am and 4 pm if you're not already signed up for something. We're still in need of volunteers for certain shifts of the games and rides, including the Moon Bounce, Pony Ride ticket-taker, Water Splash, Cotton Candy and Face Painting. Contact Ginny Biggs today at biggs703@cox.net if you're able to lend a hand!

After the Fair, we have a lot of educational and service opportunities throughout October. The Rector's Class on Celtic Christianity will begin Oct. 5 during the Sunday School Hour (10:15-11:05 am) and running weekly through November. On alternating Wednesday evenings, 6:30-9 pm, our Assistant will begin offering the wildly popular Alpha Series, beginning on October 8. Lyn has run several of these in Toronto, using the curriculum originally developed in London that has since spread into thousands of congregations around the world.

On the service front, we have our fifth Mission Trip to New Orleans, Oct 11-18, and our Fall Clean-up Day on Saturday, October 25. We will also be running our annual Stewardship Campaign throughout the month, culminating with Stewardship Sunday on October 26. As you receive your pledge cards in the coming weeks, we ask for you to extend and even expand your generous contributions to Pohick's many ministries, keeping with this year's slogan, "Give until it Feels Good!"

Elsewhere in this month's post, our Rector writes about how Pohick will be featured in a new exhibit at Mt. Vernon beginning this month, while our Assistant reflects upon the Rector's upcoming class on Celtic Christianity. You'll also find Vestry Reports, as well as Sunday School, EYC and Choir updates. Need a flu-shot? We have you covered there too!

Read about these groups and events and much, much more in this edition of the E-Post!
