September 2008 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! School's back in session, which means things are about to shift back into high gear at Pohick! It kicks off with our annual benefit Crabfeast this Saturday at 3:30, probably held this year in the Common Room because of the forecast for rain. Come and get your fill of crabs and other seafood along with some great Christian fellowship amid the music of the Pohick Pickers. The next morning we return to our regular Sunday Schedule (7:45, 9:00 and 11:15), with registration for Sunday school, EYC, Acolytes and Youth Choirs between the later two services--not to mention an Ice Cream Social as part of the Coffee Hour. The EYC Kick-off Picnic is later that evening at 5 pm. The Activities Fair the following Sunday (Sept 14) will feature displays and sign-ups for all the other organizations in the parish--a great way to get involved in a new study or ministry! We welcome our new families at a reception the following Sunday (Sept. 21) at 10:15 am. Then, get ready for Apple Butter Fri-Sun, Sept 26-28. As always, there'll be lots of juicy apples to boil down, so prepare to settle in for the long haul! This all leads to the Pohick Fair on Saturday, Oct 4, with an opportunity to welcome the community into our midst and show forth the love of Christ. In the September Epost, our Rector writes about the recent installation of our Sound System, while our new Assistant, the Rev. Lyn Youll Marshall, pens her introductory column. Elsewhere, our Sr. Warden gives updates on last month's vestry discussions, while our Jr. Warden reports on recent work around the church property. Our new Youth Minister, Rusty Booth, writes his inaugural column on upcoming EYC events, while Kathy Kirkland reports on the recent Mission Trip to Iowa. Read about these events and lots, lots more in this month's E-Post, so fasten your seatbelts, 'cause the roller coaster is about to reach the top! Finally, thanks for making the Wishing Well a great success! It funded nearly $3000 in wishes, helping us to minister better in the coming year. Likewise, thanks to the Historic Pohick Church Foundation for helping to raise over $16,000 for the church sound system (they're still accepting donations for the remaining $3,000). Read about these items, and much, much more in this month's E-Post! Don't forget to send your Pohick Post Articles to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th). Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org. Monthly Columns
