August 2008 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! The summer heat has sent many Northern Virginians inside, but there's still a lot at Pohick to come out and join! For starters, we'll be welcoming Pohick's new Assistant, the Rev. Lyn Youll Marshall and her husband Paul, to Pohick Church on Sunday, August 3rd. They have just arrived from Toronto with bare pantries in their new home. In order to help, we will be pounding them this Sunday with some staples to help get them off to a good start. So don't forget to get a pound (or more) of these (flour, sugar, coffee, etc.) when you go grocery shopping this week, leaving your items in the spot set aside in the kitchen. While you're at it, don't forget to take the LCAC list of school supplies for the needy young students in our area. Internationally, the Lambeth Conference is now drawing to a close. Read this month's Rector's Column for some pre-Lambeth ruminations on how globilization may affecting the Anglican Communion. Elsewhere, learn about the upcoming Adult Mission Trip to Iowa, which has had to be rescheduled a few times. Plans for the Pohick Fair are proceeding well, but volunteers are still much needed. The same can be said for the Brotherhood sponsored Picnic for the Homeless on August 23, 11 am to 4 pm. After that, don't forget our annual benefit Crabfeast in early September. Thanks to everyone who donated to 2008 Wishing Well: coins were cast for nearly every item on the list! Likewise for the generous donations for our state-of-the-art Sound System, whose installation is nearly complete. You'll notice a pleasant difference the next time you attend Sunday services! Finally, if your family was not able to make a sitting for the Pictorial Directory in July, slots are still available in September. Don't miss out on being included! Read about these items, and much, much more in this month's E-Post! Don't forget to send your Pohick Post Articles to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th). Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org. Monthly Columns Features of the Month
