July 2009 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! Summer has now arrived, with many of our congregation taking much needed breaks from the daily grind to relax on a vacation get-away with family and friends. The pace has also slowed down somewhat at Pohick—but there's still much going on in the coming month. While we're now on our Summer Worship Schedule (8 & 10 am), we've added two Adult Ed studies between the services (9 - 9:45 am): The Greatest Sermon Ever Preached: The Sermon on the Mount offered by the Rector in July, and How Should We Read The Shack? by our Assistant in August. Both will be held in the Parish House Annex. July also brings our annual Vacation Bible School, July 13 - 17, whose theme this year is "Son Rock: Kids Camp." That same week, our young people and their sponsors will be heading off on their Summer Mission Trip to Smithers, West Virginia, where an earlier group ministered three years ago (click here to view a video of that earlier trip). For those heading out on vacation, take a moment to read this year's installment of "Binder's Beach Books," with suggestions for more spiritual readings for the summer time. Elsewhere, our Assistant ruminates on the place of Creation in our Christian theology. Summer also means the Wishing Well is up, with ways for you to help the ministries of Pohick to minister better. Consider supporting that, as well as LCAC's School Supplies Drive, which is now beginning. As a special to this month's EPost, Don Brownlee previews this month's General Convention, July 8-17 in Aneheim, CA. You may also follow resolutions and other actions at The General Convention Website, as well as The Center Aisle, a publication of the Diocese of Virginia. Remember, the main body of the E-Post is now published in Adobe Flash and requires the Flashplayer plugin. Download it here for free if you do not have it installed. You may also download a pdf version. As always, don't forget to send your Pohick Post Articles and event photographs to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th).Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org. Note that the next mailing will be a combined August/September edition. Although this will be sent out in early September, the deadline is still July 15. |
