June 2010 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! The end of the School Year is now upon us, offering us the opportunity to celebrate the ministries that have enriched and enlivened our congregation over the past year. First up is our Sounds of Pohick Concert, held this Saturday, June 5 at 4 pm, with reception following. Come on out and enjoy the joyous strains of all four of our choirs, as well as the Pohick Pickers! The next day is Youth Sunday, when our Young People will take a greater role in leading worship at the 10 am service (That is also the first Sunday of our Summer Schedule, with services at 8 & 10 am). We will also be honoring our High School graduates, Sunday school students and Sunday School and EYC staff at that time. Afterwards, we will be continuing an old Pohick tradition: the Parish Picnic, which will be held in the newly renovated Common room and Annex, with picnic tables outside. As a "thank you" to all of our volunteers, the Vestry will be cooking and providing the burgers, hotdogs and drinks. We ask everyone else to bring a side-dish or dessert to share. Bishop Robert Ihloff will be with us for Confirmation two Sundays later, June 20, when this year's group of candidates will be baptized, confirmed or received at the 10 am service. Also coming up: the Pinkard-Davis Golf Tournament (Tuesday, June 15), Shrine Mont Parish Retreat (June 25-27), and Vacation Bible School (July 12-16). In this month's E-Post, our Rector writes his reflections on Pohick's eighth Mission Trip to New Orleans, of which he was a part. The monthly Outreach Column offers additional stories of the families they served. Elsewhere, our Assistant reflects upon insights gained at her recent conference on Contemplative Prayer, while our Wardens offer their updates on Vestry proceedings and parish house renovations. Finally, this year's Wishing Well is up, with lots of ways to help our staff and volunteers do a better job of ministry. Read about these items and much, much more in this month's E-Post! Remember, the main body of the E-Post is now published in Adobe Flash and requires the Flashplayer plugin. Download it here for free if you do not have it installed. You may also download a pdf version. As always, don't forget
