May 2010 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! Our Easter Season continues this month through Christ's Ascension and Pentecost Sunday (May 23). It is a time of transition, when the apostles sadly bid Christ farewell but soon experience a newfound joy in the power of the Holy Spirit. In a similar way, we will be bidding our seminarian Julia Messer farewell at a reception on Sunday, May 9, at 10:15 am, whereupon she too will experience the Holy Spirit at her ordination to the diaconate on June 12th in Virginia Beach. Come on out and extend to her your good wishes, as we also remember our Mothers on that day. In need of a last-minute gift? Our African Team Ministries jewelry and crafts will be on sale that morning. The day before (May 8), we will hold our Annual Spring Clean-up, 9 am - 2 pm, with lunch served in between. The recent installation of the brick walkways and renovations to the parish house will make this event an especially joyous one! It will be followed by the Frogmore Stew dinner, sponsored by the Brotherhood of St. Andrew, at 6 pm. In this month's EPost, our Rector writes about our newly revised Strategic Plan, approved by the vestry at its April Meeting. Although he focuses only on a few of its elements, the plan itself has been posted online for your review. We encourage all parishioners to read through this exciting blueprint for Pohick's future, crafted by the vestry with your extensive input. Elsewhere, our Wardens issue their reports on our vestry activities and all the recent upgrades of the property. We also preview several events coming up in June, including The Sounds of Pohick Concert (June 5, 4 pm), Youth Sunday and Parish Picnic (June 6), Pinkard/Davis/Bartlett Memorial Golf Tournament (June 15, noon), Bishop Johnston's Visitation (June 20), and Shrine Mont Parish Retreat (June 25 - 27). Read about these events and much, much more in this month's E-Post! Remember, the main body of the E-Post is now published in Adobe Flash and requires the Flashplayer plugin. Download it here for free if you do not have it installed. You may also download a pdf version. As always, don't forget
