March 2009 Welcome to the Pohick Post Online! March has come in with an unexpected roar—a blast of Snow! Perhaps this is nature's way of reminding us that Lent is now here, with Easter still forty days away. Whatever the case, we hope you'll use this penitential season to renew your commitment to our Christian faith. A good way to do this is to take part in our Wednesday night Potluck dinners (6:30-7:10 pm), studies (7:10-7:50 pm) and services (8-8:30 pm) for the five weeks leading up to Palm Sunday (March 4, 11, 18, 25 & April 1). There's classes for students of all ages (childcare for the youngest students), including three adult offerings: Faith-Based Finances (Don Binder), Christian Grieving (Lyn Youll Marshall), and "Lent for Dummies" (Julia Messer). Come out to share some wonderful Christian fellowship, combined with study and worship—all complete in two hours! For other ideas on how to observe a holy Lent, read this month's Rector's Column, a "How To" guide for setting up your own personal Rule of Life. You'll also find some reflections from our Assistant on a Christian Perspective on Suffering, Death and Grieving (p. 4). The month won't all be devoted to somber devotions, however, as we'll pause to celebrate St. Patrick's Day on Saturday, March 14, 6 - 9 pm, with traditional Irish fare. Our EYC will also host their annual Coffee House on March 29, 6 - 8 pm in support of their Summer Mission Trip. Also, don't forget to Spring Forward on Sunday, March 8, the start of Daylight's Savings Time! Read about these events and many more, along with many reports and features in this month's E-Post! Remember, the main body of the E-Post is now published in Adobe Flash and requires the Flashplayer plugin. Download it here for free if you do not have it installed. Then, simply click on the link below to access the webpage containing the articles. You may also download a pdf version. As always, don't forget to send your Pohick Post Articles and event photographs to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th). Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org. |
