March 2005

Welcome to the Pohick Post Online!

We are entering the homestretch of Lent, with three more Wednesday Night Lenten Series Sessions to go (March 2, 9 & 16), a Lenten Quiet Morning coming up on Saturday (March 5, 10-Noon in the Church), and Holy Week soon to follow.

This month, our Rector writes about a new Lenten prayer opportunity, a Maundy Thursday Prayer Vigil. Please consider signing up to "watch and pray" with our Lord for an hour. Don't forget the rest of the Holy Week and Easter observances this year:

  • Palm Sunday Procession of Palms and Passion Reading (March 20)
  • Maundy Thursday commemoration of the Last Supper (March 24, 7:30 pm)
  • Good Friday observance of the three hours of the crucifixion (March 25, noon to 3 pm)
  • Holy Saturday baptisms (4 pm)
  • Easter Sunday's Lighting of the Paschal Candle and Great Vigil (5:30 am) and Festival Eucharists (7:45, 9:15 and 11:15 am).

In the meantime, we do allow for a little light-heartedness during Lent, with the Martha Guild's Happy Hats Workshop on March 12 (10-noon), the EYC Coffee House on March 13 (6:30 pm) and the BSA St. Patrick's Day Celebration on March 19 (6:00 pm).

In a more historical vein, after returning from the Bach Marathon, watch for Pohick Church to be included in a scene from Cokie Robert's special, Founding Mothers, Sunday, March 6 at 7 pm on the History Channel.

As always, please send your Pohick Post Articles to Lori Buckius at raebuck@aol.com before the monthly deadline (15th). Pass on any comments or concerns about these pages in an email to Dick Heintze at heintzer@pohick.org or the Rector at dbinder@pohick.org .
