February 2005

Welcome to the Pohick Post Online!

It's hard to believe, but Lent is nearly here! Before we get there, however, Epiphany still has some wonderful events in store.

For starters, our Organ Rededication Service will be this Saturday, February 5 at 7 pm. We hope many of you can come out to enjoy the clear and melodious sounds of our rejuvenated instrument—sounds which we pray will enliven our worship for years to come.

Boy Scout Sunday is the following day, with scouts taking more of a leadership role at the 9 am service.

Finally, the EYC will be serving up pancakes and sausages at their annual Shrove Tuesday Pancake Supper on Tuesday, February 8, 5:30-7:30. Tickets may be purchased at Coffee Hour this Sunday or at the door.

Then Lent does finally arrive, with Ash Wednesday services on February 9 at 7 am, noon, 4:30 pm and 7:30 pm. Read our Rector's Reflections about this service, as well as about the Wednesday Night Lenten Series that will begin the following week.

Elsewhere, our Sr. Warden reports good news on the closing out of 2004, while our Stewardship Chair challenges us to exceed last year's record breaking support of our parish's ministries.

In late breaking news, Bp. Lee came through his triple bypass surgery with flying colors this past Monday, January 31. Please keep him in your prayers for a speedy recovery. While he was not present at last weekend's Diocesan Council, Bp. Lee's taped Pastoral Address revealed a change of heart about the 2003 General Convention. Council agreed with this sentiment, overwhelmingly adopting a resolution in support of the Windsor Report, which was critical of actions taken at Minneapolis.
